This year we are blessed to be able to present "There is a Rose" by Robert Sterling and John Parker. This Carol Cantata will be sung on Sunday evening, December 11, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Chancel Choir will be joined by an instrumental ensemble composed of Flute, Oboe, French Horn, Cello, Percussion and The Bells of Inspiration. Our narrator this year is Jo Ann Graham.
A unique and extremely useful concept for a Christmas cantata, this lovely work by Robert Sterling may be used in various ways. The entire work, including the Christmas Intrada and four suites, each containing original and familiar music and divided by poignant narrative, may be used in one presentation. However, it has been designed for each of the four suites to be used on any or all of the Sundays of Advent and Christmas. The cantata is scored for choir, soloists and keyboard, or it may be presented with chamber orchestra accompaniment. A moving and versatile offering!
The music will last approximately 40 minutes and then we will adjourn to the Fellowship Hall to enjoy refreshments. Please make plans to join us for this beautiful service. Child care will be provided, so bring the little ones. Please contact us if you have any questions.
The Christmas Cantata of Musical Offering at Ovilla United Methodist Church extends back many years and has become a family tradition for our church. It is a blessing each year to be apart of such great musical talents and enjoy the wonderful work and efforts from our chancel choir.
